Up for bid are seeds of the Hardy Red Crape Myrtle. This is a beautiful large shrub or small tree, which covers itself in clusters of bright red flowers for a long period in summer. It is a rounded upright grower, and this is deciduous. They are hardy to at least USDA zone 6a, and possibly colder. These seeds were collected from some very nice specimens in zone 6a, by a friend of mine who collects Crape Myrtles. As with many seeds collected from special varieties, there can be a large amount of variation in the outcome of the seedlings. You may get seedlings of varying colors, or sizes, and possibly different foliage colors as well. There is no way to determine what any seedling will look like until you actually grow them. These seeds may hold some very interesting characteristics, as these seeds could have been pollinated by a large variety of cultivars of Crape Myrtle, as they came from a large zone 6 hardy collection of thriving plants, but there should be a great degree of cold hardiness in these seedlings. You could get an exciting new variety from these seeds that may sweep the nursery industry. These plants would make excellent additions to your rare plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
