Guava is a small tropical evergreen tree that grows to 33 feet tall. It has spreading branches and smooth thin, copper colored bark that flakes off, showing the greenish layer beneath. The leathery leaves are opposite oblong-elliptic, 3 to 6 inches long and have pronounced veins. When crushed, the leaves are aromatic. The flowers are white and faintly fragrant, borne singly or in small clusters in the leaf axils, are 1 inch wide, with 4 or 5 white petals and a prominent tuft of perhaps 250 white stamens tipped with pale-yellow anthers.
