Zingiber officinale is mainly grown for its aromatic, edible root that is used in cooking as well as medicinal purposes.
Blooms (small green inflorescence with white and maroon flowers) are rare. 'Edible Ginger' produces clusters of white and pink flower buds that bloom into yellow flowers. After blooming, green cone does not turn completely red.
'Edible Ginger' is a perennial reed-like plant with annual leafy stems' that grows 3 to 5 feet tall in medium to full sun.
Because of its aesthetic appeal and the adaptation of the plant to warm climates, ginger is often used as landscaping around subtropical homes. Edible rhizome is it's main attraction.
